CURE believes that childhood cancer can be cured in our lifetime, which is the driving motivation behind their mission to raise funds for these children through the lives and experiences of children diagnosed with cancer as well as their families. Since its inception in 1975 by Dr. Abdel Ragab, Emory University’s first pediatric oncologist, CURE has partnered with other cancer institutions and organizations to develop new medications and therapies that each lead us one step closer to finding the CURE!

Join us as we support CURE and become inspired by the amazing courage and faith of these children and their parents! We proudly support all campaigns done by CURE and are excited for our upcoming events to benefit them as well including our quarterly lunches, serving Thanksgiving Lunch at Scottish Rite Hospital and our CURE Brunch in the Spring!

A Rewarding Partnership

By Shiyra Sadoff

Since the summer of 2011,  Copeland’s of New Orleans-Atlanta Franchise (Copeland’s  Atlanta)  has been a big booster of  CURE Childhood Cancer, which is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through funding targeted research and support of patients and their families.

In 2012 Copeland’s placed a plaque on the outside fountain of its two restaurants–at Cumberland and Kennesaw–that dedicates all change in the fountain to CURE Childhood Cancer. As they enter and exit the two restaurants, customers get involved with CURE as well by tossing coins that  impact CURE families. When you make a wish, you’re answering the wishes of a CURE family!

Since 2011, the restaurants have partnered with CURE as an Open Arms at Lunch sponsor by providing and serving lunches several times a year, including Thanksgiving day. Open Arms is a program in which weekly meals are delivered to the CURE children and families in the Aflac Cancer Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and Scottish Rite Hospitals. These meals help bring a sense of home and comfort to patients and their families.  During Christmas, gift certificates for Copeland’s famous Cajun Fried Turkeys are donatedto CURE families outside the hospitals.

In 2012 and 2013, Copeland’s donated 20% of the proceeds from a Saturday brunch at the two restaurants on the week before Easter, which raised almost $2200.00.  Last September, it provided restaurant gift cards to the mothers at CURE’s Quiet Heroes luncheon.

Bill Goudey, CEO of Copeland’s Atlanta franchise, says that what makes him so dedicated to this cause is, “Seeing your own kids that you are caring for and hoping that they never have to go through that.” This cause is very close to Bill’s heart as he has two young children and also lost his parents to cancer as well. The common goal to fund cancer research has given Copeland’s and CURE a strong bond and the motivation to work together.

Copeland’s goes out of its way to make sure that CURE families are taken care of. Lisa Branch, Director of Patient Services at CURE, stated that, “Our patients and their families are grateful for each meal and CURE is grateful to wonderful restaurants like Copeland’s who are making a difference for families who have a child diagnosed with cancer.”

Feel free to toss a coin during your visit to Copeland’s and help us make their wishes come true!

2013 CURE Benefit Luncheon!

Image

We are happy to announce, again, that both our locations will be offering a special buffet to benefit CURE Childhood Cancer!

The buffet will be available Saturday, March 23 from 11am – 2pm. It costs a low $14.99, and we will donate 20% of the proceeds to CURE!

The buffet will feature a variety of breakfast items as well as shrimp, chicken, pasta, wings, salmon, fried fish, mac n’ cheese, mashed sweet potatoes, red beans and rice, a variety of desserts, and so much more!

Last year, we raised an amount of $1,429.40 for CURE Childhood Cancer, and we drew in over 467 people!! That is so great!!

Our goal this year is to have even more people come to the benefit and raise twice as much for this amazing cause!

Our CEO, Bill Goudey, says that what makes him so dedicated to this cause is, “Seeing your own kids that you are caring for and hoping that they never have to go through that.” Bill has two young children, and says that a dedication to the families as a whole is what makes him motivated to help. His mother and father both passed away from cancer. In memory of our founder Al Copeland, we started the Al Copeland Foundation in 2008 after he lost his battle to cancer.

The common goal to fund cancer research, has given us and CURE an incredible bond. Our goal is to have a relationship with CURE Childhood Cancer until the cure is found!!

Come out on the 23rd, enjoy a wonderful meal, and help us support the “CURE” for cancer!

We Had A Blast On Fat Tuesday!!

Image

Atlanta residents could not have gotten closer to an authentic New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration than our “Mardi Gras Madness” on Fat Tuesday.

Our patrons were not disappointed as our staff pulled out all the stops to make our’s the most talked about, and remembered party around!

As soon as guests entered the beautiful double doors, they were exposed to all the glitz and glamour that one would expect from such a party, and we took the lavishness to an all new level. Everywhere you looked there were vibrantly colored decorations – from the streamers on the walls, to the ornaments on the ceiling. One could not help but be in awe of our costumed employees and patrons, the smell of bona fide Creole grub, beads passed out from all corners, and the extraordinary sounds from the Crescent City Connection – the traditional New Orleans street band we hired to entertain the guests for the evening.

Taking in the entirety of the scene, it’s no wonder that our guests stayed for hours to dance their hearts out, order plenty of famous New Orleans style drinks, and second helpings of our famous Creole crawfish, shrimp, and of course the delicious and infamous King Cake.

Sisters Marion and Kelli Welsh, New Orleans natives and 6-year Mardi Gras celebration attendees, say “This is our home away from home, as well as many other New Orleans transplants in Atlanta after Katrina. If we’re not in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday, we make plans to celebrate at here.” They say their favorite tradition is our King Cake, served every year as a special dessert. They also say that we offer the best Mardi Gras party in the Atlanta area – never again will they go anywhere else to celebrate!
